Book Review : Stolen

The subject of sex-trafficking popped up on my radar a couple years ago while listening to a podcast from Manna church in Fayetteveille, NC.  Michael Fletcher has been involved with ministries that are committed to getting anyone out of that life.

When offered the book Stolen by Katariina Rosenblatt, I realized the serious nature and still wanted to read about her journey.  Katariina founded There Is HOPE For Me, Inc, after walking away from a life of abuse, sex-trafficing, and drugs.

Honestly, this was a very hard book to read, and in my mind is not appropriate for my children.  The subject matter is very heavy, and even a mature youth would struggle with aspects of this book, I think.  I was very intrigued though, and think this is a book many people should read to be aware of what is going on in every neighborhood, every town, city, etc – in America.  Katariina’s story helps to educate people like me, who work with children through ministries in our church, to see, and even identify children who could become victimized by these things.

This book showed me how someone can get drawn into this life, and is almost unable to get out on their own.  God was clearly at work in Katariina’s life and following His leading through some dark times, in very inspiring.  This book reminded me of the true power of God and how he can redeem any of us from anything.

THis is not a feel-good book, even though it ends well.  It is not a book you want to snuggle up with, and yet when I started it, I could not put it down.  I knew Katariina got out, hence the book, however I was anxious to see what was going to happen.

I think this is a book all ministry leaders should read, to understand what is going on in the world today, how kids are being targeted and impacted by this lifestyle.  Katariina wrote a powerful book that needs to be shared far and wide!!

NOTE : I received a copy of Stolen in exchange for an honest review.
