Book Review : A Powerful Secret

One of my latest reads was the book by Dr. Kevin Leman and Jeff Nesbit, A Powerful Secret.  This book is #2 in the series The Worthington Destiny.

While I did not read the first book, it was not until I finished the book that I realized that there was a first, so it is not necessary to have done that!  Now that I know there was a first, I realize it would have been nice to have read it, but it did not make following this story hard.

A Powerful Secret is a story about family, secrets, and politics.  The most important aspect that I took away from this book was that family is family no matter what, through thick and thin.  The other message was that secrets have a way of not staying secret, and it is better to get ahead of them so they lose their power over you.

The Worthington Family has three children and this story centers on Sean the middle child.  The first book focused on Will, his older brother.  In Powerful Secrets Sean is left wondering what is going on, after his brother abandons the Senate race in New York, since Sean was the campaign manager.  While trying to figure out what is going on with Will, trying to gain his father’s approval for his success, and chart his own course for his future, we see Sean begin to become his own man.  Meanwhile behind the scenes there is far more going on than he realizes, as his brother attempts to do what he can to protect Sean’s reputation.

I have read many books by Dr. Leman and always enjoy his writing style and his content.  This book was no exception, I thoroughly enjoyed the drama of A Powerful Secret at well as the characters.  While there characters were not any that I could personally relate to, as it is a family of millionaires (if not billion, which I think maybe they are), I still found them all likable and as real as they could be.  There were many similarities to celebrities in the media, but I really appreciated the generosity that was obvious in all the siblings.

I hope to get my hands on the first book, so I can fill in gaps I may not realize I missed, and am already looking forward to book #3!  This story was very fast paces, lots of pieces to figure out and put into place, and some great relationships strengthening and developing. I thoroughly enjoyed this story!

NOTE: I was offered a copy of A Powerful Secret in exchange for an honest review.
