Book Review : The Raven

Ok, so up front, I have not read book #1 – while I want to now, you do not need to for this story!!

The Raven, book #2 in the Coffey & Hill series by Mike Nappa

I tell my kids all the time to stick with a book they start.  So often today, they will grab books that start off with a bang – but there tends to be little character development and a weaker story line.  Evidently I have gotten lazy though, because I started this book and was not sure I wanted to really dive in.

Wow!  I am so glad I did.  Not sure what I did not like about the first few pages, but I absolutely adored this book!  I loved the character Raven, and would love to read lots more about him.  I also really enjoyed the relationship between Samuel and Trudi – the Coffey and Hill duo.

Raven is a young magician/deception artist.  Trudi is a private detective, while her x-husband is former CIA/ current Altanta PD.  What a trio!!

The story involved amazing characters, suspense, mob style crime, and some sweet romance along with a fast paced storyline that kept you glued to the page!  This is a story I plan to hand willingly to my teen boys – as it is really a clean book, but one with lots of action and tension!!  While Raven is wildly in love with Trudi, she is still trying to figure out her relationship with her x-husband.  Meanwhile there is something going on crime related in the small town outside of Atlanta.  No one knows what is going on, at least no one willing to talk.  I loved the connection throughout the book to Poe and his writings, especially The Raven poem!

I highly recommend this book, and I hope to find a copy of book #1 of the Coffey & Hill series Annabel Lee.

NOTE : I was offered a copy of The Raven by Revell Publishers, in exchange for an honest review.
