Book Review : Wild Montana Skies

Susan May Warren is my favorite romance writer.  And I do not say that lightly. Romance is not my favorite category at all.  Its not that I don’t like romance, but I want more than just sappy boy girl interactions. I want depth.  I live for action and suspense.  And somehow, Susan May Warren can do all that in a book that is generally labelled romance.

Wild Montana Skies weaves together the lives of a famous country music singer, a recovering Army pilot, and a darling 13 year old girl.  There is a good deal of action throughout the story, as well as some drama!   The romance element is not overwhelming at all – intact I felt like it was all very believable and true to life.  I loved the female veteran angle as well (go figure!).

I have read several of Susan’s books in the past and always enjoyed them.  Her characters are my favorite.  In fact, since I read through this book in about 3 days, I am still thinking about them as I go through my day – that is a sure sign of some great character development and a story line that stays with you!!

While I avoid many romance stories that come up, I am always happy to read a Susan May Warren story, knowing I will walk away encouraged, and content after making new friends and enjoying their story!

NOTE : I was offered a copy of Wild Montana Skies at no cost.

More about the Book:

“Watching Kacey and Ben maneuver past hurts and fall back in love made for a perfect afternoon reading. Wild Montana Skies is a wonderful love story.”–Dee Henderson, author of Taken

The last thing Search and Rescue helicopter pilot Kacey Fairing needs upon returning home to Mercy Falls, Montana, is to run into her mistakes. After a devastating crash during her recent military tour in Afghanistan, she is emotionally broken but ready to start putting her life back together. She just wants to reconnect with her teenage daughter and spend the summer working as the new lead pilot of PEAK Rescue in Glacier National Park.

But her mistakes aren’t so easily forgotten. Because Ben King is also back in town.

Country music star Ben King abandoned his past when he moved to Nashville thirteen years ago to start his career. He hoped to heal his broken heart, caused by losing the woman he loved. But when his father is injured, Ben is called home to help manage PEAK Rescue during his recovery. He doesn’t realize his father has ulterior motives until his old flame, Kacey, walks into his house and back into his heart.

Now, with Mercy Falls in a state of emergency due to flash floods, Kacey and Ben will have to work together to save lives. But when secrets are uncovered and old hurts rise to the surface, will they walk away again? Or can they find a different ending to their country love song?
