Book Review : The 49th Mystic

I read a lot of books. I enjoy many different authors and genres. However when Ted Dekker releases a book, I NEED to get my hands on it.

When The 49th Mystic came out – my family was THRILLED!! Several of us read Dekker like other people eat pizza – as much as possible and as often as we can! For me personally I love an author that writes books that capture me and that I can share with my teenage sons!

The 49th Mystic is “Beyond the Circle – book 1” which means this book ties into the Circle series (Black, Red, White and Green), plus so many others!!

All three of us read this book so fast and could not wait to talk about it. The story is engaging and will make you think so deep thought about what you believe. Dekker always takes you beyond yourself and what you think is true when you allow his books to grab you. So many of his messages have resonated in my head long after the final page was read.

This book takes the reader into another world that is tied to this world as the main character, and a few others, go back and forth. The entire Circle Series does the same thing with the same “other” world.

If you have never read a book by Ted Dekker I implore you to enter into his brilliant writing and engage with his ideas in a new way. Dekker is a storyteller of storytellers. He is amazing how he can create the other world full of complex characters and scenery, as well as how he melds it all tighter in each of his stories.

I loved this story, and my boys give it a TWO THUMBS UP as well.

NOTE : I received a copy of The 49th Mystic in exchange for an honest review.

About The 49th

Some say the great mystery of how one can live in two worlds at once died with Thomas Hunter many years ago. Still others that the gateway to that greater reality was and is only the stuff of dreams.

They are wrong.

In the small town of Eden, Utah, a blind girl named Rachelle Matthews is about to find out just how wrong.

When a procedure meant to restore Rachelle’s sight goes awry, she begins to dream of another world so real that she wonders if Earth might only be a dream experienced when she falls asleep in that reality.

She is the prophesied one who must find and recover five ancient seals–in both worlds–before powerful enemies destroy her. If Rachelle succeeds in her quest, peace will reign. If she fails, both worlds will forever be locked in darkness.

So begins a two-volume saga of high stakes and a mind-bending quest to find an ancient path that will save humanity. The clock is ticking; the end rushes forward.

Ready? Set?

Dream.
