Hiking

We finally hiked Enchanted Rock!  It was so much fun, despite my son practically running up the Rock!!  Despite not being able to breathe – the views were amazing!!  Once at the top my girl was sure she was going to fly off, but we all made it safely down.  It was a fun afternoon!!

Chores

Chores are a big deal around here.

It’s how we start our day.  For the past few months I have a helper but I do the milking.  A week or so ago though, my back was not good and the kids needed to milk.  Well, that task did not go so well and Robert insisted that the kids get to where they can do the milking instead of me.  So that has been our first task of 2016.

So far so good!!

I love that the boys can go out, work together and come back in with milk from our goats.

While they started grumbling about it, they seem to be rolling with this now and do not seem to mind!

So, 2016 already has yielded a success here!!

Meanwhile, all I want to do it make soap!! I love to make soap and I would make it all the time!!  But, at some point I do need to start selling it – and that is going to be SOON!!  I cannot wait to see how this opportunity turns out!!

It’s 2016

Can you believe it?  I cannot.  The clock is ticking but there are times it seems to be ticking so much faster!!

Normally I have goals set out before the new year arrives, but this year with family in and out, with Christmas plans then New Years plans, it seems I was too busy living the day to day, that to plan the next year!  Ha!

So as the first week of the new year has arrived I have been really contemplating what I want to do in 2016, what kind of year I want to make it and also the kind of legacy I want to leave when the year closes.  I have also read several posts on other blogs about their focus for their year.  It’s always amazing to me to see how God can take a bunch of random things in my life and make sense of it.  He can weave it together in a way that it tells a story and almost clears a path.

So, purpose is my word for 2016.

I purpose to consecrate myself to God daily, if not by the hour or minute

I purpose to find joy in the day to day

I  purpose to have more fun with my people and laugh more

I purpose to pray like lives and futures depend on it, because they do

I purpose to hide more scripture in my heart and to meditate on it when I feel stressed and overwhelmed

I purpose to have peace in my heart no matter what is going on in the world around me

I purpose to keep priorities in check

The thing about my goals for this year, is they are not the concrete measurable goals that I learned to make.  In the Army we liked to have everything measurable and these are not.  Yet, they are.  Just not from outward means, they will be measurable by me in my heart – because if I manage to purpose all these things like I hope, I suspect joy will overflow from me, and that I will be steady no matter what.

So, come on 2016!  You hold many new experiences and delights and I cannot wait to see what happens!!

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!  Serve the Lord with gladness!  Come into his presence with singing!! Psalm 100

Adventures in Odyssey – Taking the Plunge

Take the plungebanner banner
So, have you taken the plunge with your family?
There is still time!!
Summer is about to be a memory in our minds – the weeks are slipping by as many families are getting ready to send kids back to school, or planning curriculum for your homeschool.
So, check out the challenge to Take the Plunge!!
See below for details and a link to sign up.
Meanwhile this is what we have been up to.  Our family is a bit split as one boy is in Maine and the rest are here in Texas.  But we are all working on memorizing the 1 Corinthians 13 chapter.  We need to really work on it if we are going to finish this summer, and I hope we do.
We also committed to doing things as a family as part of the plunge.  We have been geocaching like crazy.  We have added about 58 geocaches in the past two weeks to be exact.  We love to do this as a family.  We tend to take long breaks during the year, but we repeatedly return to geocaching – because we love it!
The best part of our geocaching adventures these days is that we have introduced two different families to the joys of geocaching and might have converted them!  Tomorrow we are going to work on another family.  This is a great addition to our Plunge Challenge because we are encouraging other families to spend time together too.  And we have loved spending time with our friends!!
Finally the last part of the challenge is to share our faith or God’s love with someone else.  One way we show God’s love is by serving in our Church Nursery – and loving on those little ones.  This is an area I can serve, and my children too.
Another way we show love to others is that we volunteer at the Children’s Garden – we help the master gardeners keep things in order while the kids are not in session.
Finally one other area we share God’s love it at our local food pantry – we get a chance to hand food to people in our community.  My children and I love to help get everything ready, and clean up afterward.  It is just another way we can share God’s love to others in our community.
Now, its your turn – if you have not signed up, do so TODAY!!  And get on it – spend some time as a family doing fun things and sharing God’s love!!

Summer . . . a time that kids pine for during the school year and parents may anticipate with something akin to dread. Fearing refrains of “I’m bored” or hours spent on the couch playing video games can make moms and dads nervous about the long, hot months stretching before their family. Focus on the Family’s Odyssey Adventure Club offers an answer, encouraging parents and kids to embrace faith and fun with the Take the Plunge Adventures in Odyssey Clubhouse magazine’s Summer Challenge.

Take the Plunge

The Take the Plunge challenge features:

  • Master Mind Monday — commit God’s Word to memory
  • Ways to Play Wednesday — spend active time with your family
  • Faith Sharing Friday — share God’s love with others

The Take the Plunge challenge helps families memorize at least five verses, engage in five activities together and share their faith with five people before the school doors swing open again. Those who sign up will receive an 11-week plan with suggested verses to memorize, activity ideas (such as visiting a war memorial) and ways to witness (such as passing out popsicles at the park with an invitation to your church), making this challenge the perfect tool for parents who want summer to be a time of spiritual and social stimulation for their kids.

“Research tells us that the more senses we involve when teaching children a principle, the more likely it is to stick,” Plugged In editor and Adventures in Odyssey podcast host Bob Smithouser says. “Bible memorization by itself is great, but it becomes even more powerful when put into action. Know it. Share it. Live it.”

Families who sign up to take part in the challenge at www.whitsend.org/summer will have access to weekly verses to memorize, ideas for family fun and suggestions for service projects that allow a family to share their faith. Additionally, anyone who signs up to participate in the Take the Plunge challenge will receive a free scene from the latest Adventures in Odyssey album, as well as a free story from the book Strange Journey Back.
